Is it for you?

PRP works with the hair you already have

It may be for you if…

  • A woman’s hair part with thinning hair, showing the scalp

    Your hair is getting thinner

It has less volume, your scalp shows more in certain light, or your ponytail is thinner than it used to be.

  • A gloved specialist checks the receding hairline of a man with hair loss

Your hair loss is just starting

The sooner it’s assessed, the more hair there is to work with.

  • A woman seen from behind holding a thin ponytail

You’re a woman with fine hair

PRP isn’t just for men. We assess it the same way at your consultation.

  • A specialist examines a man’s scalp with a dermatoscope

You’ve had or are planning a transplant

It can be used to complement a hair transplant, depending on the medical evaluation.

It may not be right for you if…

  • You have completely bald areas. Where there are no follicles left, PRP has nothing to work on; what’s considered there is a transplant.
  • You have a platelet or clotting disorder, take blood thinners, are undergoing cancer treatment or have chronic liver disease.

Either way, the medical team decides at your consultation, not a form.

How it’s done

From your blood to your scalp

  1. Hair PRP, step 1: a gloved nurse draws blood from the arm of a patient seated in a clinic chair

    Blood draw

We draw a small amount of blood from your arm, like a blood test.

  2. Hair PRP, step 2: a gloved hand lifts a tube from the centrifuge, with the golden plasma separated from the blood

    Centrifuge

The sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood.

  3. Hair PRP, step 3: a gloved doctor applies the plasma along a patient’s hair part

    Application

The plasma is applied to the areas of the scalp where the hair is weakest.

It’s all done at the clinic in a single visit, and you go home the same day.

Your timeline

Here’s what you can expect

  1. The first sessions

    Patience

You won’t see changes at first. That’s normal: hair grows slowly.

  2. Months 3-6

    First assessment

This is usually when we assess whether the treatment is working for you.

  3. After

    Maintenance

The effects aren’t permanent. To keep them, you have maintenance sessions every so often.

Results vary from person to person. Not every patient responds to PRP the same way.

Before you decide

PRP, minoxidil, finasteride or a transplant: they’re not the same

Differences between hair PRP, minoxidil, finasteride and a hair transplant
Hair PRP Minoxidil Finasteride Hair transplant
What it is Plasma from your own blood A product you apply to your scalp A prescription medication taken by mouth Your own follicles, implanted one by one
How it’s done Sessions at the clinic Daily application at home A daily pill A procedure at the clinic
What it’s used for Hair that’s thinning Slowing hair loss and stimulating growth Slowing hair loss Bald areas
How long it lasts Needs maintenance As long as you use it As long as you take it Permanent

They aren’t mutually exclusive: sometimes they’re combined. If you already use minoxidil or finasteride, tell us at your consultation. And if another option makes more sense for you, we’ll tell you.

If you’re having a transplant

A complement, not a substitute

A transplant puts hair where there’s none left. PRP works with the hair you still have.

That’s why PRP can also be used to complement a hair transplant, depending on the medical evaluation. At your consultation we’ll tell you whether combining them makes sense for you, and when.

Straight answers

The questions people actually ask us

Am I a candidate?

It depends on why you’re losing hair, how much hair you have left in the area and your medical history. No one can honestly answer that online: the medical team decides at your assessment.

What exactly is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma. It’s obtained from your own blood and applied to the scalp to support its health and stimulate follicle activity.

Does it work?

It can help improve hair density and quality in certain patients. It doesn’t work the same for everyone, which is why we assess your case before starting.

Does it hurt?

You’ll feel small pinpricks on your scalp, plus the one from the blood draw in your arm.

How long does a session take?

Less than an hour, including the blood draw and centrifuge.

How many sessions do I need?

The usual approach is an initial series followed by maintenance. The medical team will give you the exact number and interval for your case.

When will I see the result?

Hair grows slowly. Changes are usually assessed between the third and sixth month.

Is it permanent?

No. PRP doesn’t stop the cause of hair loss, so maintenance sessions are needed to keep the results.

Can I go about my day afterwards?

Yes, you can get back to your day. For a few hours it’s best not to wash your hair or do intense exercise; we give you written instructions.

What are the risks?

It uses your own blood and is minimally invasive. You may have some discomfort, redness or slight swelling on your scalp, a small bruise on your arm or a mild headache, which usually pass quickly. Before starting, we review your medical history and medications.

I use minoxidil or finasteride. Should I stop?

Don’t stop on your own. Tell us at your consultation and we’ll tell you what to do.

Can I combine it with a transplant?

Yes, it can be used to complement a hair transplant, depending on the medical evaluation.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes. We work with CareCredit: 12 months interest-free, subject to approval.
